Bridges
Wide span structures (bridges, stairs, roofs) can be excited to high vibration amplitudes in one of their basic mode shapes, for example by wind or people walking. Low natural frequencies as well as low internal damping are typical for many of these large structures. With Tuned Mass Dampers these vibrations can be reduced very effectively.

Ceiling Systems
A suspended ceiling is often required to protect an area from noise generated by activities in spaces directly above, or vice versa. Vibratec’s range of resilient hangers maximise the sound insulation of suspended ceilings by isolating them from the supporting structure, thus improving the airborne and impact noise levels. For stringent requirements solutions with springs are recommended as these result in a very low resonance frequency. Also custom made hangers can be delivered to meet specific demands for installation, adjustment or isolation requirements.

Escalators and Elevators
Lifts and elevators are often sources of structure borne sound to adjacent spaces. Vibratec has a range of vibration isolation and decoupling solutions that minimise the levels of noise and vibrations transmitted to the building. Special care need to be taken when dimensioning the vibration isolation of lift machinery as the influencing forces will have a great variation between the different support points. Also the elevator suspension plate, the cabin and the guiding rails often need vibration isolation. Escalators and conveyor belts are often elastically suspended with all metal elastic elements and vibrations in steel plates dampened with visco elastic damping paint.

Floor Systems
Floating floors are used where there is a requirement to either protect a noise sensitive area or to isolate an area where excessive noise is produced. Floating floors isolates the working floor from the supporting structure and can be designed to take domestic, commercial or industrial loads. Typical applications are apartments, recording studios, rehearsal rooms, concert halls, bowling halls, discotheques, pubs etc.

Wall Systems
Fully isolated walls are often required to prevent noise from travelling between adjacent rooms or from/to the structure of the building. The sound insulation and vibration isolation of these walls can be improved by introducing resilient fixings to decouple them from each other and/or resilient strips to isolate them from the supporting structure.

Wooden Buildings
It can be challenging to reach the requirements for sound in lightweight constructions. To reduce the vibration transmission in multi-storey wooden structures it is important to design the connections between the stories correctly. This can be done by introducing elastic elements such as pads, strips or steel springs. Vibratec can also offer sound reducing solutions for floors, walls and ceilings. We also make customized products for connecting apartment volumes, CLT-elements, elevator shafts etc.

Defence
Vibratec can provide different solutions to ensure protection from shock and vibration. With in-house design and production we can make custom made Wire Rope Isolators and prototypes for test on short notice. Our shock protection solutions can be found on mine clearing vehicles, mine sweepers, combat boats, frigates, helicopters, air crafts etc. Common applications for shock mounts are radar units, cabinets, monitors, floors, stretchers, pipes etc.

Antennas
In mobile applications, satellite antennas need to be secured from shock and vibrations. Normally three or four isolators are spaced evenly about the central axis of the antenna system. Vibratec has developed several customized solutions to world leading antenna producers by designing tailor made wire rope isolators. Wire rope isolators are very useful as they maintain excellent vibration isolation performance under maximum shock in severe environmental conditions or extreme temperatures. They have a long life span and can adapt to elastic displacement in all dimensions, allowing multi-directional vibration isolation. The isolators can be positioned outside of a domed antenna system so that the domed antenna itself can be as compact as possible to minimize its overall size.

Secured Cargo
Transportation will cause random vibration from cargo interaction with vehicle suspension and with road and surface discontinuities. This is normally divided into truck transportation and mission/field transportation. The random vibration profile is different along each axis; cargo or devices installed in transport vehicles may thus be affected by accelerations in various directions. For this reason, the anti-vibration mounts installed must be thoroughly calculated to optimise the reduction of vibration or impact stress. Enclosures
Sound insulating enclosures reduce the transfer of noise between the source and the recipient. We deliver modular standard systems as well as custom made solution based on requirements for sound reduction, fire resistance properties and material. For offshore application the enclosures are made completely in AISI 316 together with all necessary documentation needed. When assembled we measure the final sound reduction on the ready made enclosure, thus ensuring that the enclosure lives up to our promised values.

Engine Mounts
Isolation of propulsion engines and generator sets can be done by using rubber or all metal isolators. Depending on the application we can choose from a vast array of different solutions designed to work the best with your equipment. Vibratec dimensions an optimal solution with respect to your engine effect, gear box, coupling and forces due to roll, pitch and heave. Data sheets for some of the products we use can be found below. In difficult cases we use customized solutions to reach the desired vibration isolation performance.

Accomodation Modules
Using our professional-series Offshore isolators, Vibratec can suspend heavy accomodation modules up to several hundred tons. For the Offshore industry Vibratec manufacture and supply proven, weather-proof special isolators that utlasts any of our competitors. Isolators for offshore accommodation and office modules are normally customized for specific projects. The isolators should, in addition to excellent vibration isolation performance, endure accidental loads and harsh offshore environment conditions. When engineering these isolators the steel structure is FE-modelled checking for instance, mechanical strength, fatigue, weld calculations and bolt calculations. An extensive documentation is included in addition to the deliverance of the isolators.

Turbo/Generators/Compressors
The custom made cushion vibration isolators are designed for outdoor offshore and marine installations. The cushion vibration isolators are typically used as a trade-off between price and performance. The steel structure are usually manufactured in steel S355J2G3 and painted according to offshore specifications. All other steel parts are typically in stainless steel AISI 316 covered with wax OKS2000.

The choice of correct solution for rotating machinery is normally based on rotational speed, possible gear ratio, outgoing torque and whether the machine has frequent stops/starts. For machines with frequent stops/starts there is normally a need for isolators with high damping, whereas isolators for machines running at a constant rotational speed is chosen to maximize vibration isolation (thus less damping).

Constrained Layer Damping
Free-layer or extensional damping means that a damping material is glued onto the surface of a structure forming a damping layer. Energy is dissipated as a result of extension and compression of the damping material when the base structure is flexing during vibration. The damping is dependant on the composition of a damping material and increases with damping layer thickness. Vibratec can offer several sorts of damping layers including visco elastic paint. Constrained-layer damping (CLD) systems are used to increase damping in stiff structures. A “sandwich” is formed by laminating a damping layer in between two structural constraining base layers. When the system flexes during vibration, shear strains develop in the damping layer and energy is lost through shear deformation of the material. Varying layer thickness ratios permits optimizing system loss factors for various temperatures without changing the material’s composition. Vibratec can offer several sorts of damping layers cut and punched according to client specification. Also visco elastic glue can be used for sandwich layering.

Heavy Machinery
These types of machines induce heavy amplitude vibrations which is better treated as a series of periodic shocks. A good vibration isolation can be achieved by the use of elastic elements or machine mounts with high internal damping and progressive load-deflection characteristics.

Tuned Mass Dampers
A Tuned Mass Damper – TMD – is a damper that stabilize motion caused by harmonic vibration. Practical systems are tuned to either move the main mode away from a troubling excitation frequency, or to add damping to a resonance that is difficult or expensive to damp directly Wide span structures (bridges, stairs, roofs) can be excited to high vibration amplitudes in one of their basic mode shapes, for example by wind or people walking. Low natural frequencies as well as low internal damping are typical for many of these large structures. With Tuned Mass Dampers these vibrations can be reduced very effectively. A TMD consists of a spring, a oscillating mass and a damper where both the spring stiffness and the mass is adjustable to fine tune the resonance frequency exactly to the structure and its certain natural frequency, meaning each solution is unique. Embedded Track Systems
PREFArails systems for embedded track are perfectly suited for tramway track resulting in a quiet, sustainable, cost effective and good looking solution. For design without sleepers PREFArails offers excellent lateral stability, high electrical resistivity and multiple choice for the finishing layer.
